| Sledder| | | | August 29, 2008 I wonder what type of sled she rides?? Not that it would matter-- |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | August 29, 2008 Gotta love McCains VP choice, her husband is a winning snowmobile racer. She also says she rides sleds because its a great upper body workout. |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | August 27, 2008 Barb,
Can't smell anything, have a cold--LOL. After I go trick or treating then i get excited more about sledding. LOL. Everyone have a great labor day week end |
| Barb| | | | August 27, 2008 f-9, Had lunch yesterday and it was very good. As Calvin said they are still doing work around there, but I am sure we can talk them into supporting snowmobilers. Problem with them they are on 55 between Cadillac & Lake City so not sure how much snowmobile business they get or how many riders go that way. Great hearing from you, so early. Calvin can you smell ths snow in the air??? |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | August 26, 2008 I almost turned the heat on this morning. Its 7;30 am and its 36 degrees in August. Long term forecast for this winter is saying much colder and snowy for this winter. |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | August 26, 2008 Hey F-9,
Bear Claw is on M-55 heading towards lake city from Cadillac, used to be Hoffmans resturant. Went in thier friday and the food was good, seems to be some more work going on . I don't know if they supports sledders like hoffmans used to, I should have asked. |
| f-9| | | | August 25, 2008 Barb , can you tell us the location of the Bear claw ? Are they snowmobile supporters ? We'll stop in & support them with a bit of business this weekend , If they support us . |
| Barb| | | | August 24, 2008 Sledder, just heard about the new restaurant and headed out there on Tuesday. The only person I know thats been out there says it is great. Will let you know how it is.
Royboy, I smell the same thing. Winter Promotions has already been repairing the trails from this summers storm. |
| RoyBoy| | | | August 21, 2008 I think I smell SNOW comming soon. LOL |
| Sledder| | | | August 18, 2008 Heard there is a new restaurant/brewer in Cadillac. I thinks its called Bear Claw Brewery?? Has anyone checked it out??? They a member of the winter warriors?? |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | August 06, 2008 Heres the MSA working for us. Last year the DNR charged 28% for administering our fees. The MSA questioned that amount . For 2008-2009 the cost for administration is only going to be 15%. Thats over a 55 percent reduction and over a million dollars more for our trail system. Doesn't it kinda make you wonder what the state would do with that money if the MSA was not in our corner??? Great job MSA. |
| Calvinsviper| | | | July 21, 2008 Great changes on the MSA website, thanks for the update on that Polarisgirl. Are the leaves changing colors yet?? MMMMMM |
| Barb| | Bristol | | July 21, 2008 Calvin, I asked Al the question about the DNR and he said nothing has changed here, they still can't go out until they are told they can. Also, asked about trail permits and he said there would NOT be an increase this year. He also stated they might have to park the groomers during the week or cut way back on how much they groom. All the the groomers run on diesel fuel and no one has that kind of money for operating funds. The trail permits sold last year were 10K less than the year before so that fund is going to be short also. It is going to be a rough operating year for the grooming clubs through out the State. Polaris gal, thanks so much for the update. Good to hear from you. |
| Polarisgirl| | | | July 18, 2008 Barb and Calvin The MSA is working on changing their web page right now. They are working on making it more informational to the public. There will be a chat room where you can ask questions and get information. Also an area where the grant sponsors and business owners can post information for their area if they would like. Sounds like a great attempt to get information to everyone
There was an informational meeting in Auburn Hills last month. If you visit the MSA website, the meeting is posted on YouTube |
| Barb| | | | July 18, 2008 hang in there, Calvin it won't be long and we will be firing up those machines. |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | July 17, 2008 Barb,
Have not heard a thing either about trail permits. Getting tired of lookin at fishing boats on the lake though--LOL |
| Catwoman amy| | | | July 17, 2008 Hope you get a new trail permit rooster, wexford county has new patrols on the trail |
| Barb| | Bristol | | July 17, 2008 Calvin, talked to the president yesterday and he just had a meeting with local DNR. After that huge storm they called CWP and told them what trails they had to fill in and get gravel for. I asked when did we become responsible for year round maintance. That is a crock of bull that we need to fix them in the summer with all kinds of other vehicles out there. As near as I know we still can't go out until the DNR says. I will see those guys this week end and I will ask. I still haven't heard a word about trail permits, have you? |
| ROOSTER| | | | July 16, 2008 WHATS UP WITH THAT I WILL BE ROOSTING |
| ROOSTER| | | | July 16, 2008 SOON I WILL BE SHOOTING MY ROOST FIRST 3 INCHES I AM ROOSTING |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | July 11, 2008 I just listened to the MSA public strategy session regarding grooming. I learned that the grant sponsors only need to contact via phone to the DNR to groom. I thought the DNR said when we can groom. The grant sponsor contract says " the sponsor must keep the trails smooth" . The case had to go the Federal level according to Bill Manson and was won, where the DNR power trip was to try to regulate when groomers can go out. Please pass this along and by the way this is on you tube about this meeting. So the groomers only need to call the DNR and let them know your heading out to groom. Thier have been some problems in the Houghton Lake area and Presquile (sp) area. Hey Barb, we are all good in the Caddy area right?? |
| Scott| | Kalamazoo | | June 23, 2008 To save gas this year I was thinking I might leave my trailer in the Cadillac area for part of the season rather than trailering it back and forth on weekends. Can anyone provide me with some recommendations for maybe outdoor self storage businesses that are secure (fencing & locked) and perhaps close enough to a trail so that I can just launch from the storage location? |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | June 22, 2008 The days now are gonna start getting shorter, you all know what the means. SNOW. On another note, I was in my car riding down pole rd. What I find interesting is that the weeds right along the road are chest high and has never been mowed this year. I find it interesting the county can overplow that road all winter. I remember it getting plowed twice a day a few times last year. The county has a ton of work to do from the flooding rains last week. It sure would not bother me a bit if they ran outa money to plow this winter especially pole rd. As of this writing there are a few road still under water around the lakes here. Beware if your out on the lake, you may run into a floating pier section from someones dock. Its crazy out there. |
| Sister Addict| | Lower MI | | June 20, 2008 Snow Addiction - I find your "problem" to be perfectly normal, as I too suffer from snow withdrawels and LOVE the smell of my sled starting up! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... smells so good - but way better in a foot of fresh snow, around 20 degrees! Can't wait for Old Man Winter to wake up this year!!! |
| Snow addiction| | | | June 06, 2008 I have got it bad. Its 90 degrees , hot and humid. I went in the garage and started my sled. Is thier something wrong with me??? |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | June 04, 2008 Anyone have any info on the meeting that went on today about MSA? Please let us know here. Thanks |
| funny sledder| | | | May 22, 2008 Man, at these prices for gas, its gonna be cheaper to drive bar to bar then ride all day. MMMMM, beer a buck a can at happy hour prices, how many can ya drink?? |
| catman600| | s.c.s., mi | | May 22, 2008 at $4.00 a gallons = $ 50.00 to fill your sled times twice a day and a 3 day weekend $300.00 just for your sled to ride plus drive time OUCH |
| polarisgirl - mparkerhome1@comcast.net| | | | May 22, 2008 Brian, are you at the Indy500 this weekend?
The MSA is having an informational/discussion meeting in Auburn Hills June 4th. If anyone in the area is interested in going, shoot me an email & I can send you more information |
| Barb| | Bristol | | May 21, 2008 Calvin, talked to Ron (owner) and he said every delivery he is getting has a fuel charge on it except of course his gas. They aren't standing in line for gas these days and traffic has sure got real slow around here. |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | May 21, 2008 Wonder how much the spinning chickens at the bristol store are gonna go up???? Start saving now, worse feeling is to not have enough coin to sled when thier is a foot of snow on the ground. |
| Brian - blurx1@aol.com| | Laramie, Wy | | May 20, 2008 4.47$ a gal 900.00 to fll the big truck today get ready for a huge increase at the grocery store |
| Barb| | | | May 15, 2008 Hey Calvin, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Haven't been checking the board. We had a great turn out for Pole Rd. cleam up and we had it done it about an hour and a 1/2. We also got a couple of the staging areas cleaned out. You are mentioning trail permits and I have seen they are going to increase ours this year. I have heard some rumors so I am not going to print it until I have the facts. I also heard they sold 10k less permits this year than last. Don't know how true that is but that is what the MSA is reporting.
Good to see all you guys hanging in there. |
| Polarisgirl| | chesterfield | | May 13, 2008 Just hit $3.95 here tonight, $50 gave me a 1/4 tank. I'm glad I've got that 4 stroke LOL |
| Sledder| | grand rapids | | May 13, 2008 Gas at $4 a gal now. So sad |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | May 04, 2008 When I was over in New York picking up some new sleds by Tug Hill I found out something interesting in thier trail permit and club memebership fees. They pay $45 a year for thier trail permit if they belong to a club. Its $100 a year if you don't belong to a club. The cost is $25 a year to belong to snowmobile club in New York. The people that ride here the most will join the club and the visitors can just buy a trail permit if they want. Thier cost for a trail permit is 50 percent higher than Michigan. It grinds me when I hear people whine about the cost of a permit.
Hey Barb, How did the trail clean up go??? |
| OOPS| | | | April 24, 2008
Muskegon - Two park rangers from the state Department of Natural Resources face poaching charges for killing deer on private property in Oceana County last fall.
Prosecutors say Alex Gossett, 41, a full-time park ranger at Muskegon State Park, and Brian Tunk, 30, a seasonal DNR park ranger, killed deer in November and December of 2007 in Claybanks Township.
The rangers' father-in-law, Philip Gooch, 61, also faces charges of possession of bucks over the limit and loaning kill tags to another hunter.
The three men live in the Mears area.
Prosecutors say Gossett posted photos of himself with a deer he illegally killed on an internal DNR website.
Another conservation officer spotted the photos and began investigating. Prosecutors say the officer uncovered the mens' violations of state hunting laws and other infractions.
The men have been formally charged in court. If convicted, they face jail time, fines and suspension of Michigan hunting privileged for up to three years. |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | April 22, 2008 Barb,
I will be in New York this week end, great to hear thier is less trash left in da woods. Be carefull with the trash you may pick up. Last year I almost picked up some meth needles, must have been thrown out the window on pole rd. When I last rode pole rd and the sides were thin of snow, it all looked very good from trash. |
| ROOSTER| | | | April 22, 2008 I wrenched more on my mustard bucket than on my BIG BORE CAT |
| Barb| | Bristol | | April 22, 2008 Hey Calvin, You coming out to clean Pole Rd. this week end? We cleaned trail 358 yesterday with the weather so great and we managed to pick up a huge bag of junk in just 5 miles but I do have to tell you it looks more like hunters debris than snowmobilers. You guys did great this year picking up after yourself's. |
| doo| | southern , mi | | April 21, 2008 If its not yet seen a tow rope, its seen a wrech, many types of wrenches |
| ROOSTER| | | | April 21, 2008 My big bore cat has never seen a tow rope |
| doo| | southern mi | | April 18, 2008 its hard on belts pulling cats back in |
| ROOSTER| | | | April 17, 2008 4 belts yuck thats why I got me a CAT |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | March 31, 2008 4 belts, 4 oil and filter changes, two pair of 6 inch carbides and 7000 miles later. Wow, what a season. Thanks to all the groomers operators for a great season. I wish I would have taken the picture of the groomer stuck in the middle of the trail down in Howard City . That would have been a picture to look at all summer. LOL. So much snow and consistant. Time to get back to work and overtime. Mother Nature sure can be good to us at times. This was a season to remember for years and years. Lights out for now. |
| greer - grouda@columbus.rr.com| | cadillac, mi | | March 27, 2008 We just got back from two days of riding and the trails are still pretty darn good. The base is holding and they're smooth. With the new 5 inches on Tuesday we rode to Kaleva from LPL and it warmed up but the trails held. All in all if you're going to ride you will have to trailer out from Caddy to Caberfae or LPL then hit the trails. We rode about 200 miles in two days but they are fading. You might want to wait until late morning cause they're freezing at night and there's no lube for the sliders. Another good storm and they might last a little longer. Here's to one of the best years ever and hats off to CWP for doing such an incredible job this year. Already counting down the days till December. |
| Barb| | | | March 26, 2008 Do believe they are parked for the year. Granted we got a good snow fall yesterday but most of it was gone by 5 pm with the temps at 44. Talked to Pres. of CWP yesterday and he doesn't think they will be back out but never can tell what Mother Nature is going to throw at us. The temps are going to be back in the 40's today. |
| question for barb| | | | March 25, 2008 are the groomers parked for the year or will they go out around caberfae with this and the snow predicted for later this week |
| ROYBOY| | | | March 25, 2008 I was over on a county road by Higgings Lake.Over 2 miles of 60ft wide and flat.Rode over it several time to make sure it was as flat as I thought, with several other sleders. What a blast we had, with no trails leading to it.I fully understand where the Police (DNR) are comming from.I just don't want to see anymore deaths from our area making the news, does us no good if these things happen. Some may not want to come to the Caddilac area because of excessive problems.THAT'S MY POINT |
| Calvin| | Cadillac | | March 25, 2008 Hey Royboy,
Good thing wexford county officer swanson did not see you doing a fly by. He would have gotten you for unreasonable speed whether the conditions were safe or not. He even writes tickets for going 30 mph. Everyone be carefull out thier. |
